Washington County crime figures

The Washington Sheriff’s Department dealt with almost 350 criminal complaints in 2020. This was around 8% lower than the annual average of 2019. Of the crimes reported in 2020, over 270 were property offenses and around 80 were crimes against people.

Through the twelve months, 202 larceny thefts, 47 burglaries, and 22 motor vehicle thefts were recorded. Around 30 aggravated assaults, 45 rapes, and 4 robberies were among the reported violent offenses.

Crime rates for Washington County remained low between 2001 and 2008. Compared to ten similar counties, Washington ranked second to the lowest for crime rates during that period. During those eight years, almost 4,400 crimes were reported in Washington County, which averages about one crime every 16 hours for those years. Only eight percent of those crimes were violent. Even though crime rates in Washington County may have remained low compared to other counties, crime increased by approximately 70% from 2001 to 2008.
